The Tucumcari girls basketball team nabbed an impressive 58-39 victory on the road Friday night at Laguna Acoma in the first round of the Class 3A girls basketball tournament.

The ninth-seeded Lady Rattlers (19-10) face top-seed Navajo Prep (25-2) at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho.

A final score of that game wasn’t available before press start.

Tucumcari committed only nine turnovers during the game and made nine 3-pointers.

The eighth-seeded Hawks ended their season with a 23-6 record after the loss to the Lady Rattlers.

Attempts to reach Tucumcari coach Gary Hittson for comment before press start were unsuccessful.

The winner of Tucumcari-Navajo Prep will play at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the semifinal at the Santa Ana Star Center against the winner of the West Las Vegas vs. Hatch Valley game.

The championship will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Dreamstyle Arena, aka The Pit, in Albuquerque.
