    Elected officials were sworn in Jan. 2 at the courthouse in the 10th Judicial District courtroom by Judge Albert J. Mitchell. Those taking the path included Tim Rose, newly elected district attorney, and his staff along with county commissioners, the county clerk and staff, the county treasurer and staff and the probate judge. The Tucumcari Fire Department is investigating two fires causing considerable damage Monday. In the morning the department was called to a fire at the Terry Turner Building.     All Tucumcari and Quay County residents can drop off their Christmas trees at the Coronado Park at Camino Del Coronado between the hours of 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p,m, Monday through Friday through Jan. 31, according to a city spokesperson for the city. Make sure all ornaments and lights are taken off the trees and please do not put them in plastic bags as this will tear up the mulching machine.   • Police: Tucumcari city commissioner dies from gunshot wound

    New Mexico State Police are investigating the shooting death of Tucumcari City Commissioner Daniel Lopez. Officials said police found Lopez in his Tucumcari home at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, injured by a gunshot. He later died at Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari. State Police Capt.     I was recently on Facebook and came across a woman who said that she and the man she takes care of were needing a Christmas dinner delivered and wondered if there was a church or organization who could help them out. She did some checking and found that there was no one who could help them. I started talking to different people and found that in our community there really are people here that are willing to help people in a time of need.     After weeks worth of debate, and the threat of a negative referendum election, Quay County commissioners voted Monday to repeal an animal ordinance.     On Monday county commissioners met in special session and approved a roofing contract for the court house. County Manager Richard Primrose said the commission approved the contract of $203,300 to WWRC Inc. of Clovis.
